Deanne’s Interior Design Diaries: The Cake Co.

In today’s café culture, aesthetics matter just as much as the menu. That was my guiding thought when designing the interior of The Cake Co., a café in Pagadian that serves coffee and pastries in a space meant to feel both inviting and purposefully styled.

When I was approached for this project, I knew I wanted to create more than just a stylish café: I wanted a space that felt effortless yet intentional, elegant yet welcoming. A place where every corner is not only visually cohesive but also a perfect backdrop for moments worth capturing.

From the start, the goal was clear: to craft an environment where textures, tones, and natural materials such as wood and stone come together seamlessly. I incorporated pieces from my home décor store, Twenty Third by Deanne, each chosen to add warmth and character. Handcrafted terracotta vessels I designed and sourced from Bali make the café’s walls instantly recognizable, while the wooden stools bring depth and texture to the space.

We customize furniture, so we took the chance to provide customized tables for the cafe. We stayed with neutral colors to make the space cohesive, but the shapes and textures of the various materials add visual interest.

One of my favorite additions is the large mirror (which not only complements the curved lines throughout but also serves as a playful spot for mirror selfies) a small detail that enhances the experience for guests. Just take a look at the cafe’s tagged photos!

When I finally visited The Cake Co. in person, seeing people settle into the space, take photos, and enjoy the atmosphere was incredibly fulfilling.

This project was a reminder of what I love most about interior design, which is creating spaces that people connect with.

If you're looking to bring a similar aesthetic to your own space—whether it’s a café, boutique, or home—I’d love to collaborate. My approach to design is about blending craftsmanship with warmth, ensuring every space feels timeless, intentional, and lived-in. Let’s build something beautiful together.
