A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN TWENTY THIRD BY DEANNE AND THE TALENTED ARTISANS
Connecting with Local Artisans
Sourcing terracotta jars in Indonesia is not merely a transaction; it's a partnership between Twenty Third by Deanne and the talented artisans who create these masterpieces. The techniques employed to craft these works of art have been discreetly passed down through generations. They are not mere containers but living embodiments of the heritage and culture of Indonesia. Each jar is a testament to the skill, dedication, and artistry of Indonesian potters.
The artisans only use and source high quality terracotta for these products. The terracotta sculptures are then brought to life using two main machines: a rotary tool and a mold. According to the crafters, the techniques vary depending on the size of the product and because they are all handcrafted, no two vessels are exactly the same.
The process of making these vessels is very meticulous. The artisans start from taking our designs, subjecting them to trial and error until they get the perfect process to make the terracotta shaped down to the illustrations we provided. Then, the jars have to be smoothened, and tidied up. Drying the jars take up to 4-6 days, and the firing, or the process of burning terracotta so they become sturdy may take up to 8-12 hours. Finally, the jars are coloured and coated according to the designs.
We understand the importance of maintaining the traditional methods of craftsmanship while also infusing a contemporary touch. This collaboration ensures that the pieces offered by the brand not only uphold Indonesian traditions but also fit seamlessly into modern homes.
